JK. Have we seen this before. But allow me to explain why it’s ideal for winter. First off, the skirt is a sweater skirt, making it comfortable. The matching sweater top is very fashionable and chic. I enjoy combining sets that coordinate.

Houndstooth Pencil Skirt + Cable Knit Sweater + Heels

How to Wear a Pencil Skirt in Winter

This post dates back to my first year of blogging, so it’s a major throwback. I look like such a baby, hehe. Anyway, it’s obvious that pencil skirts are always in vogue, especially given that this post was published in 2014. Houndstooth is a timeless pattern that goes well with almost any color.

Since everyone owns a cable knit sweater, I also adore it. When worn with a sweater in the winter, a wool pencil skirt is appropriate.

As opposed to these sandals, I would most likely wear booties or close-toed shoes.

Pencil Skirt + Turtleneck + Heels

A tweed pencil skirt is a staple of the winter office look. It is always fashionable and the fabric is nice and thick to keep you warm.

Additionally, pencil skirts with a high waist are always attractive. The numerous subtle colors you can draw out and emphasize make this option my favorite. Personally, I adore pinks and greens because they add vibrancy to the typically darker winter fashion.

I would definitely rock this look to the office! And it would be a great excuse to finally get some green suede heels…

Pencil Skirt + Blazer + Ankle Boots

I believe my favorite winter outfit is this relaxed one! First, the pretty lavender sweater pencil skirt is so feminine.

A black pencil skirt would also work, and this skirt is available in black. The button-down shirt can be worn to work or out by layering it under a chic white blazer.

Tips to Wear a Pencil Skirt in Winter

Wearing a pencil skirt in winter can be a little tricky just because of the cold! As I’ve previously stated, baring your legs can be challenging, especially if you’re pale like me (JK, I’ve given up and don’t care!).

This isn’t really a problem, though, if you live somewhere with a more temperate climate. However, if you reside in the north, you can easily make the outfit work by donning some vibrant tights.

So, I wanted to share a few tips when it comes to styling a pencil skirt for winter:

  1. Layer up
  2. Pick warm shoes
  3. Accessorize

Layer Up

Any outfit looks more interesting and stylish when you add an additional layer to it. Take it from the layering queen herself, Blair Edie.

Choose your look, like this pencil skirt and sweater set with a matching leopard print. Then, add a coat, or perhaps a belt. You could wear a scarf, or both, or both. Layering not only looks great, but it also keeps you warm. Win-win.

Pick Warm Shoes

This seems like a no-brainer, especially in the winter. There is nothing more unpleasant than stepping outside to feel a chilly breeze on your ankles!

I also adore the concept of donning boots lined with fur for added warmth and style! If you choose suede shoes, be sure to read my advice on keeping them weatherproof before buying!

Accessories Make the Outfit

I’m pretty sure I add this to every list of outfit tips I only say it, but it’s always true. When choosing an outfit, finishing touches like jewelry, sunglasses, and handbags really complete your look.

My go-to jewelry item is always an earring, and I adore a good gold hoops because they go with everything.

Of course, a statement necklace can make any outfit more interesting. I also like to wear sunglasses, and these round ones from this outfit are some of my favorites!
