Knotless braids are essentially box braids that are installed using a different method, i.e. without the traditional association of pain at the root of the install.

What Are Knotless Braids?

Step 1. Shampoo Using a Deep Cleansing Shampoo

All buildup and residue will be eliminated from the hair by using a deep cleansing shampoo.

Unless your hair and your braids are the same length, you do not need to shampoo your braids all the way down. After all, the goal is not to keep the synthetic braid hair healthy, only your own REAL hair.

Additionally, you don’t want to waste good shampoo on hair that costs $1.99!

Step 2. Condition

Even when it is braided, conditioning will help to keep your real hair soft and moisturized. By doing this, breakage won’t happen when you take the braids down.

Once more, only use conditioner on the length of your hair from the roots to about where the ends are.

If your hair is longer than the braids, do not condition the entire length of the braid.

Step 3. Apply Leave-In Conditioner

Leave-in conditioner is a great asset when you have braids. I recommend spraying them 4-7 times a week to give them some extra moisture, especially at the roots and towards the ends of your real hair.

For the roots of the hair, it will help keep your new growth soft and avoid matting and tangling when taking the braids down. It will prevent your hair ends from splitting for the length of your hair.

Step 4. Oil Your Scalp

While your hair is braided, you can encourage it to grow a little faster by massaging a really good oil into your scalp. The oil also helps to prevent dandruff and helps circulate blood flow in the scalp.

Being so simple to do, I enjoy oiling my scalp while it is braided. You don’t need to get it all on your hair because the hair is already parted, you can just apply it to your scalp. Additionally, you don’t have to oil your scalp only on shampoo days.

If there are areas of your hair that are thinning or balding, you can do it every day if you so choose.

Step 5. Apply Foam Wrap

A setting lotion in the form of a foam is called foam wrap. It is my go-to technique for preventing the aging of my braids.

Simply wrap the braids in foam wrap, secure them with your satin scarf, and allow the foam wrap to dry before taking the scarf off. Once you take the scarf off you’ll see that your braids look nice and neat with no frizz.
